I offer puppy classes designed to teach your puppy how to remain social in outside environments.  I don't worry about teaching the puppy to sit, down etc.  I do teach the owners and puppies how to walk on their leash and recall.  These are the two most important things you can do.  We don’t want to encourage the puppy to pull on the leash and we want the puppy to come when called.  Other than that, the rest is taught during the obedience training classes.  Owners tend to loose site of the fact they have a puppy and not a full grown dog.  Like children, puppies need time to develop and should be allowed to be a puppy.  We as parents put limitations on our childrens behavior.  We should do the same for our puppies.  The biggest problem I encounter is that we speak a completely different language than our dog or puppy.  I see customers come in with bites, scratches and extremely out of control puppies.  I currently have two puppies and I have no scratches or puppy bites.  They know what it means when I tell them NO JUMP and NO BITE.   They are part of my puppy classes so they stay extremely social and balanced.  They are exposed to my customers, my other dogs and yes even my six goats.  They will come to the fence and bark at strangers, come when called and act like good little puppies.  They are only three months old.  My puppy classes teach the owners to interact with the puppy like they would with their children.  To put limitations on their behavior, understand how to address the puppy’s needs without force or harm to the puppy and owner.  My customers have told me the puppy class in invaluable.  By the time the puppy is ready for obedience training, it has a very clear understanding on how to remain a dog.  I don’t encourage dog parks for many reasons.  Everyone thinks they have a controlled and balance dog.  All too often they don’t.  Many puppies learn bad habits and often become extremely aggressive or way too submissive toward other dogs.  I use my dogs to work the puppy class and my goats.  Puppies learn correct dog behavior and owners learn to read and relate to their puppy as it matures to an adult dog.  Many of the puppy classes offered in stores etc. use food to motive the dog.  I’m sure you all know how I feel about the food training or should food bribery.  I’m always striving to improve my training and welcome suggestions from my customers.  I take pride in my dogs, puppies and training techniques.  The puppy class is 4- weeks, one time per week and one hour long.  Thank you.
